Fatigue, bloating, constipation and nausea are often signs of a liver suffering, most often due to unbalanced nutrition and chaotic lifestyle. We can help a tired liver with tonic remedies that accelerate liver cells healing, protect the liver from the toxic effects of substances it filters and prevents inflammation.
Liver tonics are prepared from bitter herbs that have choleretic-cholagogue and hepato-protective properties, such as: artichoke, chicory, yarrow, aloe vera, celandine, milk thistle, St. John’s wort, gentian, dandelion.
You can prepare a liver tonic at home: Mix two tablespoons of chopped dandelion with two tablespoons of cinnamon bark, two tablespoons of senna leaves, two tablespoons of cumin seeds and two tablespoons of ginger root. Add 6 cups of water. Simmer until the liquid is reduced to approximate three cups. Keep this decoction refrigerated. Consume a teaspoon several times a day for one week.
