Henna is a wonderful hair color for those who want to cover gray hair or desire a non-fading hair color. Henna is ideal for those who have chemical sensitivities or very sensitive skin or skin ailments. It protects the hair from sun and damage from styling with hot irons and blows dryers. Henna also nourishes the hair from root to tip, filling in damages, smoothing out hair strands, and thickening it. Keep reading and see for yourself, you can easily cover your gray hair with the best henna dye recipe. Thus, because it is natural, you won’t damage your hair any further!
For a henna hair dye recipe you will need the following ingredients: ½ cup henna powder, ½ cup hot coffee, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, and 5 drops of coconut oil.
Now, let me explain why I chose to mix these specific ingredients. Alongside a henna powder, I think that coffee can also be a great natural dye that will actually cover any gray hair.
In addition, the lemon juice will strengthen the hair and it will add shine to it. If you think the lemon juice might be too aggressive for your hair, you can definitely replace it with apple cider vinegar. It will have the same effect.
Furthermore, I love using cinnamon in this recipe because it will add a beautiful scent to it. However, cinnamon is also responsible for a beautiful brown shade which in combination with coffee, will work tremendously.
Finally, coconut oil is a great addition to the mix due to its conditioning and softener qualities.
Now, it is time to begin the dye process. Start with hair that has been freshly washed within the last 12 hours, and preferably with a clarifying shampoo. Add the henna powder into a glass bowl after which you can pour the hot coffee. You can prepare the hot coffee as you normally do. Then, begin stirring gently until smooth and creamy and only slightly thicker than a paste. Now, it is time to part your hair at the back and begin applying at the roots. Once henna is covering the scalp, add more and work it through the hair, wadding the hair up to the scalp and keeping it moist. Work quickly before the henna begins to dry. Then, cover your hair all the way to the outer hairline using a plastic shower cap which you should seal with a hair band.
Now, you can let this act for about 3 hours but I found it more effective to leave it for 6 hours. Thus, depending on your free time and patience, you can do this too. Then, rinse the hair out with warm water in the shower using the comb to gently comb out the paste. Make sure, however, to not wash your hair completely. The henna will strip all hair products from the hair and it will clean it fully. Then, you can use the coconut oil for a more natural alternative for a conditioner. That’s it. I hope you enjoyed this recipe!
